The Art of Resistance

In 1998, the 100th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Puerto Rico sparked a movement led by artists and activists to raise awareness about ongoing occupation and colonization. Artist and filmmaker vagabond and RICANSTRUCTION’s Not4Prophet launched a graffiti tagging agit-prop campaign, culminating in the preservation of the iconic DOS ALAS mural. vagabond has since dedicated his talents to the Puerto Rican independence movement producing a vast body of work showcased in this 25-year retrospective.

The Art of Resistance was curated by Tontxi Vazquez and Ana Hilda Figueroa de Jesús. It opened from May 24 to August 17, 2024 at El Taller Boricua, El Barrio, NYC.
